SES Astra contracts Five for additional capacity
SES ASTRA
has announced that it has signed a new transponder contract with
the British commercial TV broadcaster Five. The additional capacity
will primarily be used for the company’s two new channels – Five
Life and Five US – which will be launched in October. The broadcaster
will initially take half of a transponder at the orbital position
28.2° East and ramp up to a full transponder in the second half
of 2007...
Shin Satellite's sales of user terminals
reaches 50,000 in Asia-Pacific
IPSTAR
Australia Pty Ltd. (IPA), a fully owned subsidiary of Shin Satellite
Plc.—Asia’s leading satellite operator—announced that it has achieved
a deployment rate of 1,000 subscribers per month in Australia since
August and is expecting to reach 2,000 new subscribers per month
by the end of this year. This brings the total number of satellite
user terminals provided by Shin Satellite to over 50,000 in the

Boeing Company has completed Spacecraft Thermal Vacuum (SCTV) testing
for the first of its Wideband Gapfiller Satellites (WGS). The tests,

Calif., evaluated the WGS operating systems' ability to withstand
the extreme temperatures of space...
