Khrunichev rockets launch third of all payloads

According to Vladimir Nesterov, the Director General of the State Research and Production Space Center (GKNPTs Khrunichev), so far this year one in three kilos launched as payload was carried on a vehicle made by the Khrunichev company. Speaking at a press conference the DG summed up Khrunichev since 2005 saying: "In 2005, 2006, 2007, we conducted seven launches per year and in 2008 we reached the record figure in of 14 launches. Another record was delivered in 2009, with 15 carrier rockets launched of the five different types. So far this year we have completed seven starts in seven months. This year there will be 19 carrier rocket launches using the company’s vehicles.”

The company, one of the world's largest aerospace companies, produces the Proton, Proton M, Rockot and Angara rockets, the Breeze upper stage as well as heavy space modules such as the Zvezda and Zarya for the ISS.
