From the Director, UN-OOSA |
I am pleased to see that the APSCC Yearbook keeps pace with the
expansion of the scope and depth of APSCC activities. A clear testimony
of the driving force that APSCC has become is its growing membership
and the success of the 9th APSCC Satellite Conference and Exhibition
that under the theme ‘Satellites – Growing with Asia’ brought to
Seoul almost 500 participants and 200 companies from 22 countries.
This makes the APSCC Yearbook 2007 an excellent reference source
on the capabilities of its members and a very useful tool, not only
for the global satellite community but also for large user communities.
The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UN-OOSA) is
proud to have provided its auspices to the quest of APSCC since
its establishment, in whom it now has a partner to bring the usefulness
of satellite communications to promote applications that build capacity
in telemedicine, tele-education and disaster relief and recovery
in Member States, particularly the developing countries. The Office
for Outer Space Affairs looks forward to working with members of
the APSCC in the implementation of its new programme, United Nations
Platform for Space-based Information for Disaster Management and
Emergency Response (UN-SPIDER) and to strengthen its fruitful cooperation
with APSCC.
