Dynamic Asia shows no signs of slowing d
The Asian region is an exciting and dynamic one in so many dif ferent ways, but certainly in terms of satellite communications and services. Asian satellite operators are enjoying a flourishing market where demand for their services is high and shows no signs of slowing down. Satellite Evolution Asia focuses on what is new for the Asian satellite operators.
It is a continent with many different markets that are all at different stages, from the highly evolved like Singapore to the emerging markets such as Vietnam. The Asian satellite market has seen a boom time in recent years. After it was left with a bad case of overcapacity in the early to mid 2000s and a very unbalanced supply and demand situation, the Asian region has recovered extremely well and the overall outlook is a positive one for the future. For those in towns and cities, the Asian stereotype is lived out. People are on the cutting-edge of technology and very open to new and emerging technologies such as mobile TV and also more staple deliveries such as DTH. For those living outside of the urban areas, demand for com-
munications and for the Internet and all that this brings with it, is high. So, satellite really does have a place in Asia. It is building a very secure future for itself as it can offer a variety of different services to all. There is no restriction placed on satellite for the delivery of services to such a vast continent. The recent APSCC conference and exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur brought together operators from across Asia, and the rest of the world to discuss the market and trends that are specific to Asia. Satellite Evolution asked Pacome Revillon, CEO of consulting firm Euroconsult to comment on the state of play in the Asian market at present.
