industry news.

The Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia is an industry-based
advocacy group dedicated to the promotion of multi-channel television
via cable, satellite, broadband and wireless video networks across
the Asia-Pacific. CASBAA represents some 110 Asia-based corporations,
which in turn serve more than three billion people. Helen Jameson

affecting the Asia-Pacific region..

18 Long-term Sustainable Partnership
ND SatCom has a long standing relationship with GlobeCast dating
back some nine years. It has recently culminated in the delivery
of the 50th satellite newsgathering vehicle to GlobeCast. Helen
Jameson talks to key executives from both companies to see why the
relationship has been so successful, and why the ND SatCom SNG product
offering is one of the best available.

20 Newsgathering -the Next Generation
Human beings never tire of receiving information. No matter what
time or where we are, the need to be kept updated with events is
crucial to us. Emerging applications such as Mobile TV and IPTV
will mean that we will eventually have access to TV wherever we
are and whenever we want it so the speed of delivery from the location
where the news is breaking to our TV sets is critical. Satellite
Evolution Asia explores the next generation of satellite newsgathering
equipment and steps being taken to overcome industry issues.

26 Gateways to Communication
The glamour of the satellite itself tends to take over as far as
networks are concerned but have you ever stopped to think about
how the signal sent by a satellite reached your device at home or
in the office? It’s all down to regional gateways. Satellite Evolution
Asia takes a look at an often-overlooked but very important piece
of the ground segment.

32 The Evolution of Voice
The emergence of VoIP is firmly on the radar screens of residential
and business users and the amount of subscribers is on the up. The
positives seem to far outweigh the negatives of this technology.
Is it really as good as it seems or too good to be true? Helen Jameson
investigates.

38 Enhanced Viewing Experience
With an estimated 20 million homes worldwide expected to subscribe
to IPTV services by the end of 2008, Satellite Evolution Asia looks
at what IPTV is and why it is expected to be the next big thing
in home entertainment.

42 Still in its Infancy?
PTV is the delivery of television services combined usually with
telephony and Internet access so a triple play service across a
telecommunication line or your phone line. Helen Jameson talks to
Graham Cradock, and Roger Bolton of Tandberg TV.

46 Maintaining our Presence in Space
Launch systems are the foundations that ensure that the plethora
of services we on earth enjoy from space continue to be made available.
The teams of professionals whose job it is to get the satellites
into space work hard to give their customers the best service possible.
With customers scrambling for launch slots Satellite Evolution Asia
takes a look at what’s new in the world of launch systems.

50 Bigger and Better
The theme at CommunicAsia 2007 was “Digital Convergence in Reality”.
The satellite and broadcast industries were brought tightly into
focus and the emphasis this year was on the bringing together of
technologies to create a world that is more connected than ever.

54 One of the Fastest Growing Markets
The Vietnam International Communications Summit & Expo (also known
as “Vietnam Comm 07”), will be staged in Hanoi - Vietnam Exhibition
