Link Microtek, the Basingstoke-based manufacturer of infrared, RF and microwave systems, has boosted its export sales drive by appointing consultant Tim Mell as North America representative for the company’s Azdec line of infrared mobile secure communications systems.
Suitable for a variety of military and civil applications, the Azdec system provides totally secure, interference-free, short-range voice communications while allowing operators to roam away from their base positions, unhindered by any trailing wires. There are no RF emissions and the infrared signals cannot be intercepted by any conventional method, so it is impossible for anyone to jam the transmissions or eavesdrop on what is being said.
“This appointment is an important step for Link Microtek as we continue to seek new international sales opportunities for the Azdec system,” commented managing director, Steve Cranstone. “Tim Mell has a strong background in military secure communications and clearly understands the requirements of our target markets. We are confident that his excellent contacts within the prime defence contractors in both the USA and Canada will be a significant asset to us over the coming months and years.”
Tim Mell was equally enthusiastic about the tie-up with Link Microtek: “The infrared technology of the Azdec system offers distinct advantages over RF solutions, so we believe there is a lot of potential for it in the market. The early interest from some major defence corporations has been very encouraging.”
While most Azdec systems are installed for secure short-range communications on board naval vessels, the technology is also suitable for use in air-traffic control rooms and other types of secure communications facilities.
