Intelsat S.A., operator of the world’s first Globalized Network, powered by its leading satellite backbone, was named “Disruptive Innovator of the Year” at the 2016 Satellite Industry Leader Awards during The 2nd Global SatShow in Istanbul, Turkey. The Satellite Industry Leader Awards honor companies in the satellite industry that drive positive change in the world.
The winners of the Satellite Industry Leader Awards were chosen by a panel of analysts, researchers and journalists. Nominees for the Disruptive Innovator of the Year award were evaluated on their ability to redefine satellite connectivity through the launch of new technology over the past 12 months. The 2016 introduction of Intelsat’s high-performance platform, Intelsat EpicNG, with the launch of Intelsat29e and Intelsat 33e earlier this year, established the company as the first operator to implement a truly high throughput platform serving multiple applications. The initial Intelsat EpicNG constellation is comprised of seven planned satellites, attaining global coverage when the final satellite launches in 2018.
“When we announced Intelsat EpicNG in 2012, we were focused on delivering satellite services with higher performance, enhanced economics and simplified access, changing the role of satellite in the communications sector. This prestigious award validates that we are delivering on the promise of HTS,” said Jean-Philippe Gillet, Intelsat’s Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa Sales. “The Intelsat EpicNG platform will continue to expand, overlaying Intelsat’s globalized network, and create new opportunities for service providers in the wireless, mobility, enterprise, media and government sectors.”
The award was presented by Hakan Kurt, CEO of the Global SatShow, in front of an audience of international industry leaders in the EMEA region.
