Flawless video coverage of this year’s London Marathon was made possible with the help of ViaLite RF over fiber links. The 26+ mile length of the course, starting near Blackheath and finishing in The Mall, makes it challenging for runners and also for the RF coverage. Full RF services for BBC Sport’s coverage were provided by Broadcast RF; specialists in RF technology used in making television programs covering sports, news and events. Broadcast RF builds ViaLite RF over fiber modules into customized systems, regularly using them to extend antennas for radio cameras within specialist ground-based receive networks. The ViaLite modules are also used for receiving signals from relay planes and helicopters when a high receive point is required. In addition to the London Marathon, Broadcast RF used ViaLite RF over fiber modules to provide successful worldwide coverage of the UCI Track Cycling World Championships this year. The five day event took place over the expansive Hong Kong Velodrome 250 meter cycling track. “Being able to place our antennas some considerable distance from the receivers allows us to carefully monitor the system and its operating parameters from the OB compound,” said Michael Noake of Broadcast RF.
