Iceland to accept ITU satellite filings working with ManSat

Iceland’s Post and Telecommunications Administration (PTA) has announced that it is to facilitate the submission of satellite filings to the ITU.

The Icelandic government has published the regulations that set the framework for the PTA to undertake satellite filing work. The PTA is currently in advanced discussions with ManSat to set up the processors for satellite filing work to be undertaken. ManSat, an Isle of Man based company, is the commercial market leader in provision of spectrum to the satellite industry. Detailed work will be undertaken by ManSat’s Icelandic subsidiary, IceSat, facilitating the new satellite filing process on the PTA’s behalf.

Over the last 24 months, the PTA has undertaken an extensive knowledge build up by examining the satellite filing procedures and regulations of the world’s leading nations in satellite filing with a view to creating a best practice process for Iceland in this arena.

“As a nation known for our experience in communications regulation and our position in international affairs, we welcome this opportunity to assist the global satellite industry with access to satellite spectrum. We see this as a part of our initiative to be an active player in the space sector. We look forward to welcoming the satellite industry to Iceland.” Hrafnkell V. Gíslason, Managing Director of the PTA.

“The Icelandic PTA’s focus on transparency, efficiency, and their wish to create a best practice jurisdiction for the 21st century has been most refreshing. We look forward to our future in Iceland.” Christopher Stott, Chairman and CEO ManSat and IceSat.
