SPOT Gen3 now widely available to MediaMarkt consumers in Germany

November 22, 2017

Globalstar Europe Satellite Services Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Globalstar Inc. and the leader in satellite messaging and emergency notification technologies, today announced that its SPOT Gen3 satellite GPS messenger is now available to buy online from Germany’s biggest consumer electronics (CE) retailer, MediaMarkt.

MediaMarkt decided to add SPOT Gen3 to its extensive product range following a thorough eight week evaluation of the product by focus group users in its so called “MediaMarkt Testpiloten” program. The test users awarded SPOT Gen3 with 4 out of 5 stars.

Quotes from the test users included:

“Great device for athletes when cell coverage is reduced”

“Better to have it [in case of emergency] and not need it than to need it and not have it”

“Very easy to use, robust and a help in times of distress”

“Keeps its promise and is worth the money”

“As Germany’s largest CE retailer, MediaMarkt is uniquely poised to make SPOT more easily available to consumers throughout Germany. We are delighted that MediaMarkt has added SPOT to its portfolio, as we enhance the safety of lone workers, athletes, adventurers and other recreational users,” said Gary King, SPOT Regional Sales Manager EMEA.

SPOT Gen3 is a rugged, pocket-sized, user-friendly communications and safety device. Its satellite tracking automatically updates the user’s location on Google Maps. In the event of an emergency, SPOT’s one-touch SOS button instantly transmits the GPS location to the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Centre (IERCC) so rescue operations begin immediately. This ensures users can get emergency help even if far beyond the reach of GSM mobile signals.

SPOT Gen3 users can also let friends, family and colleagues know they are OK and have arrived safely and share their GPS location in real-time via Google Maps™.

Since launching in 2007, SPOT devices have helped in over 5,500 rescues worldwide, many of which were life-saving.
